Life After Zero
Zero tolerance can destroy lives. A simple mistake or innocent omission made by a juvenile can have long lasting or even permanent effects due to the incredible punishments and lack of compassion inherent in these policies. Award winning director R.Dekker Dryer is a ZT survivor who is doing something about it.
Danda Motion Pictures is planning a unique documentary feature about Zero Tolerance in America’s public schools. Headed by award-winning director / producer Dekker Dreyer and based on largely on his own bad experiences with “insane” public school discipline policies, Life After Zero looks to be the definitive film about ZT. What makes this project unique is that we want those who were affected by Zero Tolerance policies to direct the film in a series of segments showcasing how ZT changed their lives forever. Jim Peacock of Zero Intelligence has pledged his support for the project by accepting the role of technical adviser, and for that we thank him. As more people come on board the stronger our chances for making a real impact with this feature will be.
We’re looking for young people who have been affected by ZT and can look back on their experiences to give insight into how ZT changed their lives. Maybe they couldn’t get into college, maybe they have a felony on their record and can’t hold a job when once they were a promising honors student. Perhaps, they were beaten in school and punished for self-defense. Our documentary wants to explore what the real effects of zero tolerance are from the perspective of the survivors.
If you could help us in any way, especially locating potential segment directors we at Danda Motion Pictures would greatly appreciate it. Beyond directors we are looking for those involved in law, politics, news, child psychology or education to be interviewed as part of a wrap-around to the segments directed by victims. Sponsors and potential funding sources are likewise needed. Within a few short months we hope to be approved for fiscal sponsorship from the International Documentary Association making any funds collected for this project 100% tax deductible. Lastly, this is not intended to be a money-making venture for Danda as we will be pledging 75% of the gross profits of this production to worthy causes, but to make this happen we’d like to know what those who are active in ending ZT think are the most worthy causes. Any suggestions regarding this are also greatly appreciated.
As far as directors go, we have compiled a list of what we provide and what we ask in return. This is simple listing of the major points of our agreement and can be a helpful in identifying potential interested parties.
We will provide:
- A High-Definition video camera that will be theirs’ to keep.
- Support services such as a contact person who can schedule interviews based around names you provide and a full compliment of legal release forms and permits.
- Video tapes
- Pre-paid postage
- $300 for transportation and telephone expenses
- Between 5% - 7% of all profits from the film, if any, donated in your name to an anti-ZT charity of your choice. We anticipate that split between all the directors and the production company’s pledge, approx. 75% of all the profits will be going directly to charity.
- A chance to let a wide audience see the effects of zero tolerance policies in a powerful medium.
What we ask:
- 8-12 days of your time over a two-month period. Weekends or days off from work only! We don’t want to put anyone in jeopardy for this project.
- The copyright on all segments shot by you. This is to ensure that one of our directors backing out down the line doesn’t ruin the project for our other participants.
- A good attitude.

Sounds like a worthy cause. I’m looking forward to seeing the video!
I can’t wait to see this video…..It is long overdue. Hats off to the people who are taking the time to bring this issue to light and the negative affects it has on our young people. Expulsion has to stop. We need to teach when our kids mess up. The consequences should include ways to change the bad behavior in a positive way.
i am getting involved!

No…I was totally doing the exact same thing. I even have about 3 days worth of footage from my former high school. Oh well…
I’d like to help if its possible, I am 1/3 of the alleged ‘cyber stalkers from Loranger High School and I feel like its my duty to share my experience of injustices before it hurts others.
