They make handcuffs for eight year-olds too
Police Arrest 8-Year-Old After Alleged Outburst in Williamsburg Elementary School
An eight year-old student at Rawls Byrd Elementary School in the Williamsburg-James City County school district was handcuffed at school by police officers. The boy had a violent outburst when he was forbidden from going to recess with his classmates.
The four-foot pupil was led away from Williamsburg’s Rawls Byrd Elementary School in handcuffs Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery.
…
Authorities say he head-butted his teacher and kicked an assistant principal when he was told he couldn’t go outside to play with other students.
Just when was the responsibility for handling and disciplining eight year-olds transfered from the schools to the police? And just when did it become commonplace for police to handcuff little kids?

Didn’t Pres. Clinton and his wife introduce “Cops in Schools”? As far as I’m concerned, if schools have to have cops patrolling their hallways (some with tasers that they use on students), then they’re too dangerous for most kids to go to.
This sounds like a dangerous school with dangerous pupils.
I think a large part of the problem with the yonger students is that they are taking away recess. when I whent We had three a day, now my kid only gets two. I had a hard time sitting still and paying attenetion with three and they keep taing them away. hm dosent make any sense to me.
Kid’s were learning to read better when they went to school less and got more exercise. I think the police presence may force parents to take lots of kids out of school and use online education (in 36% of public schools now).

Kids grow up in day care who now have the same craziness as public school. My older son (now 30), grew up in day care and still excelled. Teachers were more tolerant, expected less from parents, and the kids grew out of their wiggles. I thought daycare would it would improve with time, so it’s a shock and a terrible blow to families. I don’t think anyone can count on public resource, even if everything appears to be great one day it can change quickly.
Well, I awakened yesterday to the news on my radio that said 30% of school districts today are offering some kind of on-line education. That’s nice. How many private providers are there? Plenty and more upcoming. Don’t like the on-line education your public school is providing? There will be many more companies willing to take up the slack.
Zero tolerance will eventually go away because students will eventually go away.
How many kids want to spend seven-plus hours a day in school? Not many. Most of them are there for lunch and social activities. Can you imagine! Kids are only willing to go to school so they can have lunch with their friends!
Union busting!
I think it’ll get so bad that they’ll get rid of public schools and everyone will go online eventually. Things can’t continue as they are.
This was a very shameful, incident on the part of the school. I wonder if they had even explained to him, why he was sitting out recess.
Remember, these are people who are usually certified. Their comment will be, the police officer made the decision not us. A very closed mind Officer, I might add.
Remember the days, when they talked to kids. Its over.
Did anyone check with the school to find out the history of this student. How would you like to have your child in a class where they allow students to throw the chairs and desks around.
How did the student behave once the police were involved.
Teachers and principals are hardly allowed to even grab hold of a pupil these days so they have to bring in someone who is allowed to stop the violence.
The child was not held but turned over to the parents. It seems to me that the child is in need of help that the school may not be able to provide. You mentioned no history of this child. I am not sure why this is being reported on a site that is supposed to be for Zero Tollerance unless you feel that there should be a tolerance for this kind of behavior by an 8 year old child. By the time a child is 8 years old it should have learned that one does not attack teachers and principals.
My son attends this school and I personally know the Asst. Principal. I can assure you that the police were a last resort. They are awesome when it comes to handling the kids there. By the way, the child kicked the policeman in the head. There was no reasoning with the child. He was out of control and I am sure that they were trying to protect the child. He tried to jump out of a window during his rage. He appearently has alot of problems and needs help.

Police Work is dangerous
So at first I was chuckeling about this article about Florida cops handcuffing a 5 year old. Then I wondered if I hadn’t read this earlier, and did a quick search. Turns out they’ve done i…
