Fistfight at school brings the cops
Christchurch Girls Get Fright From Zero Tolerance
Two girls were in a fistfight at Rangiora High School yesterday afternoon. A rational school would bring them in front of the principal or perhaps a vice-principal to find out why they were fighting, who was the agressor, etc. Not Rangiora.
But principal Peggy Burrows says this year the school has adopted a policy of zero tolerance to violence on the school grounds, in an effort to make it a safe place for students.
She says the police were called in to speak to the girls, something Ms Burrows says they will not forget in a hurry.
They definitely shouldn’t forget it. It is an excellent example of the abuse of scholastic authority and how to overreact to a locally handleable situation. Hopefully these girls and their community will act to get this foolish policy removed before it does serious damage to somebody.

Not only does it confuse, surprise and probaby traumatise the girls, but it wastes the city’s resources. “Ooo, a spat; let’s call the cops!” Mo Rons.
Yes, clearly an overreaction that makes no sense.
